Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he is in no hurry to return to the role of Deadpool, even after the massive success of 'Deadpool & Wolverine' in 2024. The actor, who brought the Merc with a Mouth to life on screen, said he has written some ideas he loves but does not want to rush into production.
Deadpool's MCU Future Remains Uncertain
Collider reported the update after Steve Weintraub spoke with Reynolds while discussing Season 5 of FX's docuseries 'Welcome to Wrexham,' which arrives on May 14. During the interview, Weintraub asked Reynolds if he could share anything new about Deadpool's future. Reynolds confirmed that he has been writing, but he made it clear that no immediate return is locked in.
“I have a few things written that I love. I don’t know. We’ll figure out when the time is right. I’m not in any huge rush right now to do anything,” he told Collider.
Why Reynolds Is Taking His Time
The actor also explained why he does not want to flood audiences with new Deadpool projects. “Deadpool works best on both scarcity and surprise, so jumping right back into it full on right now is probably something I’m not going to do,” Reynolds said. This approach comes as fans continue to wonder whether Deadpool will appear in 'Avengers: Doomsday,' which is less than eight months away from release.
Reynolds Praises Marvel Team
Reynolds also praised Marvel and its leadership while speaking about his experience with the studio. “I gotta say, that Marvel team, those guys have been incredible, all of them, and I’m really, really lucky to have the opportunity to work with them the way I have, as intimately as I have,” he said.
A Look Back at Deadpool's Journey
Reynolds first played a version of Wade Wilson in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine.' The role changed his career in 2016 when 'Deadpool' gave him the chance to play a more faithful version of the character. The film became a major hit and helped make Deadpool a global superhero name. His latest outing, 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' grossed over USD 1.3 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. Even with that success, Reynolds is choosing patience over speed as fans wait for Deadpool's next move in the MCU.
As the entertainment world watches closely, Reynolds' deliberate pace suggests that any future Deadpool project will be carefully crafted to maintain the character's unique appeal.
