Saif Ali Khan on Bizarre Advice to Hide Marriage with Amrita Singh

Saif Ali Khan's career, much like his personal life, has experienced its share of highs and lows. Although his first released film was 'Parampara' in 1993, his Bollywood journey actually began earlier with 'Bekhudi' in 1991, a project intended to mark his grand entry into the industry. However, he was dropped from the film midway through shooting. On a positive note, the shoot brought him face to face with Amrita Singh, whom he married that very year.

Saif Ali Khan Advised to Hide Marriage

In a candid interview with News18, Saif revealed a peculiar piece of advice he received early in his career: to keep his marriage to Amrita Singh a secret. "I remember that there was a senior actor from a different generation who told me not to tell anyone that I'm married. I don't know why he said that. I think he was trying to suggest it would spoil my image and fan following. It was the worst and most bizarre advice someone ever gave me," Saif shared.

Fear of Being Ridiculed

Early in his career, a filmmaker advised him against playing police roles, claiming he would look 'comical' in them. But Saif's biggest fear was being laughed at. "When I started work, my main ambition was not to be laughed at. My director once told me, 'joote maarenge log' (people will throw shoes), and that when the film screened at Chandan, they might laugh at me and hate me, and I'd be out of work. I'm sure many actors, when they act for the first time, don't want to look ridiculous. That's the standard. Once you cross that phase, you may want to become Mr. Bachchan. But it starts on that note. The humility was always there. I worked hard and made vows to maintain a religious approach to my work ethic so it remains pure. That has always been the idea," he added.
