Flood Situation in Dhemaji Under CM's Watch
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is personally monitoring the flood situation in Dhemaji district, where rising waters have led to the suspension of train services. The district has been severely affected by continuous rainfall and overflowing rivers.
Train Services Halted
Due to waterlogging on railway tracks, train services on the Lakhimpur-Dhemaji route have been suspended until further notice. According to railway officials, the decision was taken to ensure passenger safety as floodwaters reached dangerous levels.
Impact on Local Population
The floods have disrupted normal life in Dhemaji, with several villages inundated. Rescue teams have been deployed to evacuate affected residents. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) is coordinating relief efforts. A senior ASDMA official stated, “We are working round the clock to provide food and shelter to those displaced.”
Government Response
Chief Minister Sarma has instructed district authorities to remain on high alert. He assured that all necessary resources would be made available for rescue and relief operations. The state government has also set up relief camps in safe locations.
