Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has moved the Delhi High Court seeking an urgent stay on the production, promotion, and release of the upcoming film 'Kala Hiran: Battle for Legacy', alleging that the project infringes upon his personality rights. The actor claims that the filmmakers have used a lookalike resembling him and styled the character with his iconic bracelet, as reported by Aaj Tak. The petition further alleges that the film's promotional campaign has leveraged his name to generate attention.
Legal Grounds and Concerns
According to the plea, the movie's release could damage Salman's public image and potentially influence ongoing legal proceedings related to the 1998 blackbuck case. Khan has requested the court to restrain the makers from producing, promoting, releasing, streaming, or circulating the film and any associated publicity material. The matter is expected to be heard soon.
Prior Legal Notice
Before approaching the High Court, Salman reportedly issued a legal notice to the filmmakers, demanding an immediate halt to all work on the project and its promotions. The notice asserted that the film draws inspiration from the actor's blackbuck hunting case, arguing that such a portrayal could tarnish his reputation, interfere with pending judicial proceedings, and violate his personality rights. It emphasized that the blackbuck case remains pending before the Rajasthan High Court and that making a film based on an active legal matter could amount to interference with the administration of justice. The notice also contended that any dramatized or sensational depiction could create prejudice against the actor and affect his right to a fair trial.
Background of 'Kala Hiran'
'Kala Hiran' first sparked widespread discussion after its makers unveiled the film's poster last month. The project is said to be inspired by the blackbuck poaching case involving Salman Khan and combines elements of courtroom drama and crime thriller. The film reportedly also explores the widely discussed conflict between Salman Khan and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi through a cinematic lens.
