The play 'Second Hand Sadashiva', staged by artistes of the Rangasrushti Cultural Organisation, proved to be a crowd-puller, keeping the audience laughing throughout its runtime. One of the reasons for it being a big draw was that it was publicised across the town. The play was staged on Tuesday evening at Kannada Bhavan before a packed house.
The nearly 50-minute production held the audience's attention from the start to finish with its steady flow of humour and crisp performances, drawing sustained laughter. Written by MS Narasimhamurthy, the play was directed by Sharangouda Patil, who also handled the music, stage design and lighting. Vaman Malagi delivered a lively performance as Sadashiva, while Shanta Acharya impressed as Indrani. Shirish Joshi as Papanna, Vishwanath Desai as Boss Balaraj, Anushree Raghuveer as Udbatti Urmila and Sharanya Mathapati as Mohan added to the play's comic appeal with effective character portrayals. Gurudatta Pednekar designed the light and shadow effects.
Public works department executive engineer Praveen Hulaji inaugurated the programme. He said it is encouraging to see such a large turnout for a theatre performance at a time when people are increasingly glued to mobile phones. He said productions of this kind instil fresh enthusiasm among audiences and assured continued support for Rangasrushti's cultural activities.
Social worker Basavaraj Kamanagoudar and Pundalik of ACME Engineering Works were guests at the show. Rangasrushti Cultural Organisation president Ramesh Jangal presided over the whole programme. Vice-presidents MK Hegde and Shailaja Bhinge, director Ramkrishna Marathe, Sharanya Mathapati, BS Gavimath, YR Patil and Shashidhar Hosakote were present.
