Shilo Sanders Targets Mary Kay Cabot Over Browns QB Debate

A back-and-forth involving Mary Kay Cabot and Shilo Sanders has pulled attention away from on-field questions and into a wider debate about media criticism and player accountability. At the center of it all sits Shedeur Sanders, whose uneven first season still leaves the Browns with more questions than answers heading into camp.

Why did Shilo Sanders target Mary Kay Cabot over Browns QB debate?

Mary Kay Cabot's reporting on Shilo Sanders' race has shifted in recent weeks. In March, she suggested Deshaun Watson might struggle to reclaim the starting role. By April, her stance changed, pointing to Watson as the likely QB1. That pivot did not sit well with Shilo, who responded on Instagram with, "Go make a sandwich Mary," a comment that quickly drew backlash.

He did not stop there. Doubling down, Shilo questioned Cabot's credibility, saying, "If you're going to be a reporter, be a reporter and report facts." He went further, adding, "Whenever you have your opinion, and your opinion is always something hateful to Shedeur, it makes it seem like it's something weird, like it's an agenda that you have going on."

The criticism broadened into a wider swipe at her work. "There's plenty of women in this field that take this serious and take reporting football serious and actually do homework and study the game and get the statistics right and get the news right. But with you, it's so much emotion that I don't want you to make women look bad when it comes to reporting because you don't have the will to actually went to report real things that are going on."

How did Mary Kay Cabot respond to the criticism?

Mary Kay Cabot chose not to escalate. A longtime voice covering the Browns and a recipient of the Bill Nunn Memorial Award, she addressed the situation without matching tone.

"I really do believe that I have been an inspiration for lots of women's and young girls to know that you can go out there and do a good job in a man's world and take on all of that that comes on with that," Cabot said. Her response stayed focused on the bigger picture. "I know so many women who have joined the football world especially because of some of the things I've been able to do over the years, I'm happy about that."

She closed with a measured note: "I'm just happy that I've been able to help set the tone and open some doors in that way, and I know that will continue. That's just how I feel about that."

Meanwhile, the football side remains unresolved. Shedeur's 2025 numbers, 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions across eight games, reflect a mixed debut for a team that finished 5-12. He remains in competition with Watson and Dillon Gabriel, with no clear starter locked in. The noise around the Browns may linger, but inside the building, the decision will still come down to performance, not posts.
