In a recent interview, actor Shriya Saran, who is a mother to five-year-old daughter Radha, opened up about the emotional complexities of pregnancy and parenthood, shedding light on how these experiences affect not just women but also their male partners.

Shriya Saran, married to Andrei Koscheev, emphasized that men often face significant emotional struggles during the journey to parenthood. She pointed out that many to-be and new fathers are not emotionally trained or informed to handle the changes their partners undergo during pregnancy.
"Unfortunately, the first person who bears the impact is usually the husband, and most of the time, he doesn't fully understand it. Not because he doesn't want to, but because he isn't emotionally trained or informed," Shriya said in her conversation with IANS.
The Challenges of Absence During Vulnerable Times
Shriya also highlighted the difficulty pregnant women face when their husbands are not present during vulnerable moments. "When you want someone to pass you a pillow or just call you silly for no reason, and they are not there, it really hurts. The husband not being there feels terrible," she added, underscoring the emotional toll of physical absence.
Emotional Turmoil Women Experience in Parenthood
The 'Sivaji: The Boss' actor elaborated on the profound emotional and physical changes women endure while carrying a child. "A woman goes through so much; her body changes, her organs get compressed, and emotionally she feels very different throughout the journey. From the beginning till the end, there are mood swings, but none of this is really explained to the husband," she explained.
Shriya noted that much of this emotional turmoil is unexpected for both partners. "No one tells you these things before pregnancy. You only find out as it happens, and then you wonder why nobody told you earlier. Emotional turmoil is a big part of it, and a woman goes through a lot," she stated, calling for greater awareness and communication about these issues.
