Bengaluru: Six individuals have been taken into custody for allegedly assaulting a 22-year-old student who also works as a gym trainer. The incident occurred at Teachers Colony in Sanjay Nagar, north Bengaluru, on May 19. The arrested suspects include Mateen Ahmed from Mattikere, identified as the prime accused, along with his associates Jayakantan, Shreyas, Kishore, Pavan, and Shailendar, residents of Yeshwanthpur and surrounding areas.
Background of the Assault
According to the complaint filed by the victim's elder sister, a BTech student, the accused claimed they attacked Ansh Thakur for making derogatory remarks about another gym trainer named Ilyas. Ansh Thakur had been training under Ilyas for bodybuilding from 2023 until 2025. However, there had been no communication between them for the past six months. On the night of May 18, Ansh and Ilyas exchanged heated messages on a WhatsApp group. A group member, Mateen, threatened Ansh on the same platform.
Details of the Attack
On May 19, Mateen called Ansh for a meeting. The accused, led by Mateen, attacked Ansh, hitting him on the face with knuckles. This caused an injury below his right eye while he was speaking to a neighbor. The complaint detailed the sequence of events, highlighting the premeditated nature of the assault.
Investigation and Evidence
An investigating officer stated that police will retrieve the WhatsApp messages to determine what exactly provoked the fight. The attack was captured on a CCTV camera, which played a crucial role in identifying the suspects. The footage provided clear evidence of the incident, aiding law enforcement in making swift arrests.
