The much-anticipated wedding of Indian women's cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal has been unexpectedly postponed. The ceremony, which was set to take place on November 23, was delayed due to sudden health crises affecting both families.
Sequence of Unfortunate Health Emergencies
The events unfolded on the very day of the wedding. Smriti Mandhana's father, Shriniwas Mandhana, fell ill and required immediate hospitalization. This sudden development threw the wedding plans into disarray. In a further twist, the following day, the groom-to-be, Palash Muchhal, was also admitted to a hospital in Sangli, which is Mandhana's hometown.
Palash was later transferred to a medical facility in Mumbai for more advanced treatment and rest. Mandhana's manager officially confirmed the postponement, stating the collective decision by both families was made in light of these serious health-related developments.
Social Media Updates and Recovery
Following the announcement, Smriti Mandhana removed all posts related to her wedding from her official Instagram account. However, photographs featuring the couple remain visible on Palash Muchhal's social media profiles. There has been considerable public curiosity about whether Palash also took down his wedding content.
As of Monday, he has kept the proposal video he uploaded on Instagram on November 21. The video captures the moment he proposed to Mandhana at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Notably, this is the same venue where the Indian women's cricket team clinched the Women's World Cup 2025 title.
On a positive note, both Shriniwas Mandhana and Palash Muchhal have now been discharged from their respective hospitals and are currently in recovery. Despite their improving health, the families have not yet announced a revised date for the wedding ceremony.
Support from the Cricket Community
The postponement has rallied support from Mandhana's teammates and the wider cricket fraternity. Team India batter and close friend Jemimah Rodrigues has withdrawn from the remainder of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) matches to stand by Mandhana during this challenging period.
This personal setback for the cricketer comes just weeks after a monumental professional high. Mandhana played a pivotal role in India's recent victory in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup, making the wedding delay a poignant contrast to the recent national celebration.
