Days after the controversy surrounding the song Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse from KD: The Devil, starring Dhruva Sarja, actor Sudeep has voiced his support for the film's director Prem. Speaking at the film’s press meet on Monday, Sudeep urged audiences to show empathy in their criticism.
Sudeep's Appeal for Sensitivity
“Prem has made songs in the past that have brought us closer to our parents... songs on mothers’ love and emotions, which we’ve heard on loop,” Sudeep said, emphasising the filmmaker's contribution to Kannada cinema. “People outside Karnataka can say what they wish to, but we should keep in mind the contribution this man has given.”
Addressing the Backlash
“I am not saying he has made a mistake with his song; sometimes, some things don’t work, and it’s OK,” Sudeep added. He acknowledged the role of social media but cautioned against excessive negativity. “Social media is a space for people to share their opinions. But it is not right to make a man feel so small. Is it okay for us to be so harsh on our own people?” he questioned.
Calling it “not advice, but a request,” Sudeep urged audiences to respond with sensitivity. The actor’s remarks come after the song faced backlash for its lyrics and visuals, with many calling it inappropriate. Prem, known for films like Jogi and Uppi 2, has been a prominent figure in Kannada cinema for years.
