Hyderabad police have registered a cheating case against Tamil actor Arya, producer Vinod, and others associated with the recently released film Ananthan Kaadu. A camera equipment rental company has alleged that the group failed to clear dues amounting to over Rs 1.80 crore.
Allegations of unpaid dues
The complainant, a representative of the rental firm, stated that the total amount owed was Rs 2.12 crore, of which only a small portion had been paid. The company claims that despite repeated reminders, the accused did not settle the remaining Rs 1.80 crore.
According to the police, the case was filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and breach of trust. The investigation is ongoing.
Film released amid controversy
Ananthan Kaadu, starring Arya, hit theaters recently but has been mired in financial disputes. The rental company alleged that the producers used the equipment for the film's shoot but failed to honor the payment agreement.
“We trusted them based on their reputation, but they avoided our calls and refused to pay,” the complainant said, according to the police report.
Legal proceedings
Hyderabad police have summoned the accused for questioning. Arya, known for films like Raja Rani and Sarpatta Parambarai, has not yet issued a statement. The case highlights the ongoing issue of payment defaults in the film industry.
