The Telangana High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by a Tollywood actress and former Bigg Boss contestant to May 4. The actress is seeking to quash a criminal case that accuses her of duping an NRI businessman under the pretext of marriage.
The matter was heard by Justice J. Sreenivas Rao. After the actress's counsel presented initial arguments, the Assistant Public Prosecutor requested additional time. Additionally, the counsel for the NRI businessman filed a vakalatnama, stating that she was authorized to represent him in the case.
In her petition, the actress argued that the case, registered at the Central Crime Station based on a complaint by the NRI's father, does not prima facie disclose any cognizable offense. She denied any dishonest inducement and claimed that the NRI, in an attempt to convince her and her family about the marriage, spent large sums of money on her as a bait. She asserted that neither she nor her family are responsible for these expenditures.
The case has garnered significant attention due to the actress's celebrity status as a Tollywood star and her participation in the popular reality show Bigg Boss. The next hearing is scheduled for May 4.
