Actors Triptii Dimri and Madhuri Dixit recently opened up about their experiences with criticism and public judgement during different phases of their careers. Their comments come as their upcoming film 'Maa Behen' approaches release. Despite belonging to different generations of cinema, both actresses shared challenges that reflected similar experiences.
Triptii Dimri on Reactions to Film Choices
In an interview with India Today, Triptii Dimri discussed dealing with reactions to some of her projects, including the discussions surrounding 'Animal'. The actress admitted that while she tries to appear unaffected publicly, criticism does leave an emotional impact. She said, "It is difficult. I try to put on a strong face sometimes and be like, 'No, it doesn't affect me. I don't get affected, or I am going to push it under the rug'. But it doesn't work that way, it does somewhere, pinch you." She also expressed confidence in her decisions as an actor, stating, "It is a film that I did, and I am proud of it. There is nothing about that film that I am not proud of. It is a choice that I made for myself, and I was comfortable with. And I think I am proud of every film that I have done, whether it is Bulbbul or whether it is Qala."
Why Challenging Roles Matter
Triptii further explained that choosing diverse characters has been crucial to her journey. She believes that repeating similar roles limits growth and reduces opportunities to evolve as a performer. She said, "I think it is very important for me as an actor to make different choices. Otherwise, if you keep doing similar roles, then there is no growth for you. The intent has always been to do different roles and challenge myself a bit. Like when I got offered Maa Behen, I was like, 'This is so difficult. How will I ever do it?' And when I get that feeling, I know that this is something that I have to do." She also expressed disappointment over how quickly women become targets of criticism, adding, "It is not fair, I feel. We are very quick to judge. And only the girl."
Madhuri Dixit Recalls Her Early Career Days
Madhuri Dixit reflected on her early career experiences, noting that acting was not always seen as a conventional choice. After her film 'Abodh' failed commercially, many questioned whether she should continue acting. She revealed, "They used to tell my mom, 'Why are you putting her in this? Don't spoil her life. Let her get her education first.'" Madhuri credited her mother for encouraging her during uncertain times and helping her stay focused. "My mom was amazing. She was such a strong woman. She said, 'Is this what you want to do?' I said yes. She said, 'Then you should do it. Because if you do something you love, you will never work a day in your life.'" She also recalled comments about her appearance early on, and her mother advised, "One day, when you get that one successful film, everything they say about you will change into positive feedback. So don't worry about anything. You just keep working."
On the professional front, Triptii Dimri is also preparing for her major upcoming project 'Spirit', where she will star opposite Prabhas.
