Berhampur: A nine-month-old baby girl, who was relinquished by her unwed mother to the district child welfare committee in Gajapati district about six months ago, found a new parent and home in Haryana on Monday. An unmarried female professor from Rohtak adopted the child, following the guidelines of the Central Adoption Resources Authority (CARC).
Adoption Process
Collector of Gajapati district, Akshaya Sunil Agrawal, handed over the girl to the woman in the presence of Additional District Magistrate Munindra Honnagea, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Arun Kumar Tripathy, and several other officials in Paralakhemundi. The adoptive mother had applied to CARC, New Delhi, four years ago to adopt a girl but chose to keep her identity undisclosed.
Child's Background
The infant had been residing at the child adoption center near Paralakhemundi for the past six months after her biological mother, an unwed woman, voluntarily gave her up to the child welfare committee.
Adoption Statistics
According to Tripathy, a total of 84 orphan children from Gajapati district have been adopted by individuals both within India and abroad over the last eight years.
This adoption highlights the ongoing efforts to find loving homes for abandoned children, with the system ensuring that all legal and procedural requirements are met to safeguard the child's welfare.
