Urvashi Dholakia: Mother's Decision to Send Twins to Boarding

Urvashi Dholakia Opens Up About Motherhood and Boarding School Decision

Actress Urvashi Dholakia, recently seen on the reality show 'The 50', has candidly discussed her journey as a single mother raising twin sons. In an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly, she revealed that the pivotal decision to send her children to boarding school was not her own, but rather her mother's insistence.

The Emotional Struggle of Separation

"It was difficult. I had to send them to boarding school. It was my mother's decision, not mine, by the way," Dholakia, 45, confessed. She explained that her mother argued that keeping the twins at home might lead to an undisciplined life due to Urvashi's busy schedule. "She told me that instead of keeping them with me and giving them an undisciplined life, put them in a hostel to give them a disciplined life," the actress recalled.

Her mother further emphasized, "You will never be able to give them time, and they will get indisciplined. How long can the grandparents do it? Because they are also ageing." Despite agreeing, Urvashi faced immense emotional turmoil. "I used to feel so bad that we were getting separated. I used to cry every day of my life. The kids were not home. But then I realised I myself was not at home," she shared, highlighting the painful reality of balancing work and parenting.

Positive Outcomes and Family Dynamics

Reflecting on the outcome, Dholakia now acknowledges her mother's wisdom. "My mother's decision was absolutely bang on. My sons are disciplined. One of my sons cooks, and the other makes tea for me and does everything all household chores," she said proudly. This discipline, she believes, stems from their structured upbringing away from home.

The actress also touched on the loss of her children's father in 2010, which added to the challenges of single motherhood. She noted that her twins have been raised primarily by women, shaping their understanding and empathy. "They have only grown up with women. They have seen it all. They know what it is to live with women. They have seen the hardships. So, they know," Urvashi explained, underscoring how this environment has fostered resilience and respect in her sons.
