Varun Dhawan has spoken candidly about the emotional struggles that accompany fame, revealing that many actors experience profound loneliness despite their glamorous public image. The actor emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself, citing Salman Khan's social media activity as a prime example of authenticity.
Varun Dhawan on Dropping the Façade Early
In an interview with Bombay Times, Varun opened up about the isolating nature of an actor's life. 'Actors' lives are very lonely. Ninety percent of actors are very lonely,' he stated. Rather than succumbing to the pressure of crafting a polished persona, he chose an alternative path. From his debut in Karan Johar's 2012 campus drama 'Student of the Year,' he consciously decided to be himself. 'Luckily, from the beginning, I've dropped the façade. What Varun is there, Varun is here also. I'm not like, your back has to be straight all the time. I try not to do that. My mental health will go for a toss. I can't pretend because somewhere, it (the bubble) would burst,' he explained.
Varun Dhawan on Salman Khan's Late-Night Posts
Reflecting on his earlier days in the industry, Varun recalled being even more outspoken and unfiltered. 'If you see my earlier interviews, I was even moohfat and aur bhi bakwas karta tha main. Now, people are getting more conscious because of social media. But what's the most that can happen? They'll cancel you,' he said. He then turned his attention to Salman Khan, who has recently been making headlines for his quirky late-night Instagram posts paired with unexpected captions. The mention amused Varun. 'When I see Salman bhai's posts at night, he's going into another zone only,' he said with a laugh. He concluded with a simple yet honest message: 'You've got to be yourself, whether that's good or bad, but at least you'll be yourself. Otherwise you won't even realise what you've become.'
Varun Dhawan and Salman Khan's Long-Standing Connection
Varun and Salman share a deep-rooted history, stemming from Salman's close association with Varun's father, veteran filmmaker David Dhawan. The duo delivered several hits together, including the 1997 comedy 'Judwaa' and the 2007 blockbuster 'Partner.' This bond extended to the next generation when Varun headlined the 2017 reboot 'Judwaa 2,' a film that paid homage to the original, with Salman making a special appearance.
