Luxury fashion has always embraced boundary-pushing designs, but occasionally a creation emerges that leaves the internet bewildered. The latest example is Swiss-French brand Vetements' denim skirt, which appears to be intentionally worn inside out and is now a legitimate retail product.
What may have been intended as an avant-garde statement quickly drew ridicule online after an Indian influencer questioned the piece and its exorbitant price tag. The conversation gained momentum when influencer Yashasvi Acharya shared a video reacting to the skirt's unconventional and hideous design. The clip went viral, sparking debates over whether the design is visionary or lazy.
In the video, Yashasvi points out that the skirt appears intentionally inside out, showing visible buttons and a hanging label. She says, "Actually, this skirt is exactly like this. Yes, inside out." She screenshots the product from Myntra and questions the price for exposed pockets and visible stitching lines. She ends with a sarcastic comment in Hindi: "Isne toh poori kayanat ko hi palat ke rakh diya," meaning "turned the whole universe upside down."
At first glance, the piece resembles a light-wash denim midi skirt with turned-out white pocket linings at the front, an exposed inner label hanging over the waistband, and a visible button placket down the center. The seams appear intentionally exposed, and frayed edges along the sides add to the deconstructed effect. The back of the skirt features a leather Vetements logo patch with pocket placements outlined in an inside-out aesthetic. The overall design creates the impression that the garment has been flipped and stitched back together on purpose, giving it an awkward finish.
Regardless of whether one views it as revolutionary or an expensive wardrobe failure, the internet has taken notice, and this may signal that the fashion world has run out of ideas.
