Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat has raised serious concerns over potential bias in the ongoing investigation into the alleged sexual harassment case against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Speaking to the media, Phogat warned that the government would be held fully responsible for any untoward incident that may occur in Gonda, where a protest march is planned.
Phogat's Allegations of Bias
Phogat alleged that the authorities were showing favoritism towards the accused, citing delays in registering the FIR and lack of action on their complaints. She stated, "We have no faith in the system anymore. The government must ensure a fair investigation, or else they will be answerable for any consequences."
Protest March in Gonda
The wrestler announced that she and other protesters would march to Gonda to demand justice. She emphasized that the protest would remain peaceful but warned that any provocation from the opposing side could lead to violence. "We are not backing down. The government has to take responsibility for the safety of all protesters," she added.
Government's Response
In response, the Haryana government has deployed additional security forces in Gonda to maintain law and order. Officials have assured that the investigation is being conducted impartially and that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the safety of the protesters.
The controversy erupted after several female wrestlers accused Singh of sexual harassment, leading to widespread protests. The WFI chief has denied all allegations, calling them politically motivated.
