A 22-year-old woman was arrested in Bhilwara on Wednesday for allegedly recording and circulating an obscene video of herself in an attempt to frame and blackmail her husband, police officials reported.
Case Details
According to Bhilwara Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh, the case came to light after a video showing the woman bathing was circulated through a fake social media account during the last week of March. The husband subsequently filed a complaint at the Gandhinagar police station, leading to the registration of a case under relevant legal sections.
In his complaint, the husband alleged that the video was deliberately created and disseminated by his wife in collusion with her former lover. He claimed the intention was to falsely implicate him and create grounds for separation. The husband stated that the video was made to appear as if he had leaked it, and he received threats when he objected to the scheme.
Investigation Findings
Police investigations revealed that the video was posted online on March 20 using a fake account created with a SIM card allegedly arranged by the woman's associate. Examination of social media chats between the woman and her alleged accomplice indicated a premeditated plan to circulate the video and shift blame onto the husband. During interrogation, the woman initially accused her husband of recording the video. However, the alleged lover, when summoned for questioning, told police that the woman had attempted to involve him in the conspiracy.
Police said their cyber team traced the fake account's origin and found links to the woman and her associate. She was taken into custody and is currently being interrogated. Officials added that the woman's family had earlier filed a separate complaint against the husband regarding the alleged seizure of jewellery. The investigation is ongoing.
