A delegation of a women's organisation staged a protest outside the Kharghar residential building of stand-up comedian Pranit More on Sunday evening. The protest was triggered by the 'Rs 370 chicken biryani' controversy that emerged from his show in Gurgaon last month.
Background of the Controversy
The incident became viral on social media in the first week of June. During his show, Pranit More shared a story from a 23-year-old audience member named Himanshu Jangra. Jangra narrated that he spent Rs 370 on a chicken biryani date and explicitly stated, 'Maine kaha ki Rs 370 lage hain to use to wasool to karunga hi' (I spent Rs 370, so I will definitely recover it). More was accused of glorifying non-consensual content by circulating the story through his social media account.
Protest Actions
As a mark of protest, the women activists brought a parcel of chicken biryani to hand over to More at his apartment. The demonstration aimed to condemn the comedian's actions and raise awareness about the seriousness of such statements.
