Veteran actress Zeenat Aman recently paid tribute to her mother on social media, describing her as a woman ahead of her time. In a post on Instagram, Aman recalled how her mother's unconventional decisions caused a massive scandal in conservative society.
Mother's Unconventional Choices
Aman shared that her mother, a devout Hindu, first married a Muslim man (Aman's father). When that marriage ended, she married a German Protestant named Heinz. After Heinz's death, she chose to raise Aman single-handedly and guide her early career. Aman wrote, 'It shouldn't take much for you to imagine the scandal and unrest her decisions caused.'
Lessons Learned
The actress revealed that her mother taught her not to be bothered by others' opinions. 'Amma had the metaphorical hide of a rhinoceros and taught me that other people's opinions are their business, even if those opinions are about me,' Aman said. She added that her mother found public gossip undignified and believed in saying nothing if one has nothing nice to say.
Aman admitted that she initially absorbed these attitudes because she was a 'mummy's girl,' but over time, she realized how remarkable and meaningful this stance is. She concluded by saying that she now feels quite zen about any unprovoked criticism she invites.
