'Gen V', the popular spin-off series of 'The Boys', has officially been cancelled and will not return for a third season. The news was confirmed by executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg in a joint statement to Variety. They expressed, "While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the ‘Gen V’ characters’ stories in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again."
Future of the Franchise
With 'The Boys' concluding its five-season run on May 20, the franchise is expected to expand with the new spin-off series 'Vought Rising', which is set to debut in 2027. Additionally, 'The Boys: Mexico' remains in active development. Several characters from 'Gen V' are anticipated to appear in the upcoming fifth and final season of 'The Boys'.
Viewership and Reception
'Gen V' Season 1 aired from September 29 to November 3, 2023, while its second season ran between September 2025 and October 2025. In terms of viewership, the teen superhero series opened its second season strongly with 424 million minutes viewed in September, securing the No. 8 spot on the Nielsen streaming Top 10 originals chart. However, the show struggled to maintain its ranking thereafter.
Plot and Cast
Set at the fictional Godolkin University, the series explored the lives of young superheroes navigating power, trauma, and conflict in a world increasingly shaped by tensions between humans and superpowered individuals. Season 2 introduced a new narrative, including a mysterious program tied to the institution’s origins and the arrival of a new dean, played by Hamish Linklater. The ensemble cast included Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Sean Patrick Thomas.
Fans can look forward to seeing their favorite characters again in 'The Boys' Season 5 and other upcoming projects within the VCU.
