In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns about artist safety, renowned singer Lagnajita Chakraborty was allegedly harassed and nearly physically assaulted during a live performance. The event took place on Saturday at a private school located in Bhagwanpur, East Midnapore.

The On-Stage Confrontation

According to details provided by police sources, the trouble began after Lagnajita performed a devotional song. The accused individual, identified as Mehboob Mallik, reportedly objected to this choice. He demanded that the singer perform a secular number instead. What started as verbal heckling quickly escalated into a severe security breach.

The situation turned dangerous when Mallik allegedly climbed onto the stage. He then aggressively confronted Lagnajita Chakraborty in the middle of her performance. The singer, recounting the traumatic event, stated that her show had begun smoothly around 7 pm.

Singer's Harrowing Account

"By around 7.45 pm, I had just finished my seventh song, Jago Maa, and was interacting with the audience," Lagnajita said. "I was about to begin my eighth song when a man suddenly came running towards the stage. Within seconds, he was on stage with the intention of hitting me."

She emphasized that the entire concert was being video-recorded by the school authorities. This footage is expected to provide clear evidence of the aggression. "He came very close to me before two or three people intervened and pulled him away," she added. While being restrained, the accused shouted, "Onek Jago Maa hoyeche, ebar ektu secular gaa" (There has been enough Jago Maa, now sing something secular).

Immediate Aftermath and Police Action

Following this frightening encounter, Lagnajita Chakraborty immediately walked off the stage. She proceeded directly to the Bhagwanpur police station to file a general diary regarding the incident.

Her manager, Anshuk Mitra, described the situation as threatening and completely unprovoked. "One of the owners came up on stage. He stood right in front of her with an aggressive approach, as if he was about to slap her. In her 11-year-long career, this has never happened before. All of us were terrified," Mitra stated.

The police have taken swift action in response to the formal complaint. Authorities have confirmed that the accused, Mehboob Mallik, has been arrested. The case is now under investigation as the music industry and fans express outrage over the safety of performers during live events.
