Gangavathi (Koppal): An 18-year-old pre-university student allegedly stabbed his father, mother, and elder sister in Gangavathi taluk of Koppal district on Saturday night after being advised against playing online mobile games. While his father and sister succumbed to their injuries, his mother sustained grievous injuries.
Incident Details
The accused, Sai Venkat Manideep, allegedly stabbed himself after the attack spree and is currently undergoing treatment along with his mother, Soujanya, at VIMS Hospital in Ballari. Police identified the deceased as Venkat Naidu, 45, a cook at a private school, and his 19-year-old daughter, Pragathi. The incident took place at Hosa Ayodhya village under the Gangavathi Rural police station limits on the night of June 6.
Sequence of Events
According to the complaint, Venkat Naidu, his wife, their two children, and his parents had dinner together before retiring for the night. While the couple and their children slept in one room, Venkat Naidu's parents slept in another. Around 10:30 pm, Tatarao, Venkat Naidu's father, heard commotion and his son shouting. Unable to open the door, he sought help from neighbors.
Venkat Naidu, Soujanya, and Pragathi were found with severe stab injuries. Pragathi died on the spot, while Venkat Naidu succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. Soujanya sustained serious injuries to her head and neck.
Allegations and Investigation
In his complaint, Tatarao alleged that his grandson, Sai Venkat Manideep, suddenly became enraged, picked up a knife from the house, stabbed Pragathi, attacked his parents, and then slit his own neck. Superintendent of Police Dr. Ram L Arasiddi said preliminary information suggested the crime had been committed by a family member. He stated that the injured told investigators that while the four family members were asleep, Sai Venkat Manideep switched off the lights and attacked them with a knife. Complainant Tatarao has expressed suspicion against his grandson, and further investigation is underway.
