The cultural landscape of Tiruchirappalli is set to resonate with classical melodies as the city prepares to host its annual Margazhi Mangala Utsavam. This three-day music festival, dedicated to Indian classical arts, will commence on December 19 and continue through December 21.
Venue, Timings, and Festival Heritage
Organised by the locally based Manghalam group, the festival is now celebrating its seventh consecutive year. All events will be held at the Manghalam Weddings and Conventions Centre, located on Nelson Road in the Thiruvanaikoil area of Trichy.
The inaugural day's proceedings will start at 10:00 AM on December 19. For the subsequent two days, the schedule includes dual sessions: morning programmes begin at 10:00 AM, and evening sessions commence at 9:30 PM, with all events concluding by 7:00 PM daily.
A Rich Tapestry of Classical Performances
The festival promises a diverse lineup that showcases the depth of South India's artistic traditions. Attendees can experience performances by renowned classical vocalists, skilled traditional instrumental artistes, and graceful classical dancers hailing from various prestigious arts schools.
The instrumental concerts will highlight classical instruments like the rhythmic mrudangam, the auspicious nathaswaram, and the melodic violin. Special mangala isai (auspicious music) performances are also a key part of the agenda.
