An Unprecedented Musical Venture: Bridging Mississippi and Punjab
In a bold move that defies the digital age, acclaimed artist Vineet Singh Hukmani has announced the creation of a unique double blues album. This ambitious project, set for a global release on November 7, 2025, consists of two distinct parts: 'Delta Blues Revival' in English and 'Kyon? Punjabi Blues'. This marks a significant milestone, being the first time a blues album is being released in the Punjabi language, creating a fascinating cultural bridge.
The Analog Revolution in a Digital World
What makes this project truly stand out is its recording methodology. Tired of the overly polished and computerized sound of modern music, Hukmani decided to go entirely old-school. Both albums were recorded using completely analog equipment on 8-track spools, with no computers involved whatsoever. This deliberate choice was made to capture the raw, unfiltered, and warm essence that is the soul of traditional blues music. Hukmani emphasizes that this approach brings a human and alive quality to the sound, prioritizing authenticity over digital perfection.
A Cross-Cultural Collaboration with Deep Roots
The authenticity of the English album, 'Delta Blues Revival,' was honed under the guidance of the highly respected and reclusive blues maestro, Ruffus Cotton, from Jackson, Mississippi. Cotton, along with his band, was instrumental in helping Hukmani tap into the genuine Delta blues sound. This collaboration across continents proved to be a revelation. Ruffus Cotton expressed his honour in being part of the project, noting that he never imagined collaborating with a musician from India on a blues album and was deeply impressed by the soul Hukmani brought to the genre.
The inspiration for the Punjabi counterpart, 'Kyon? Punjabi Blues', struck Hukmani during the recording of the English tracks. He asked himself why not infuse this powerful musical tradition into his own cultural roots. The result is a collection of seven original tracks that blend the emotional depth of Delta blues with the expressive rhythm and poetry of the Punjabi language. This is Hukmani's first time expressing himself musically in Punjabi, making the project deeply personal and meaningful.
The double album is a testament to Hukmani's career-long mission of pushing musical boundaries. With a history that includes nine #1 hits on the European Indie Top 100 and being the first Asian to enter the US Radio Top 100 Rock Charts, this analog blues venture is his latest milestone. It serves as a revival of tradition in an era increasingly dominated by digital and AI-generated art.
Listeners can expect 12 original English songs on 'Delta Blues Revival' that pay homage to the gritty spirit of Mississippi, while 'Kyon? Punjabi Blues' offers 7 original tracks that chart a bold new direction for world music. The album will be available on all major streaming platforms from November 7, 2025. For collectors, vinyl editions will be released in select countries at a later date.
