Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai Shifts to Zee5 OTT in Seasonal Format

Iconic Sitcom Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai Transitions to OTT Platform After Decade on &TV

In a significant development for Indian television, the beloved sitcom Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai is undergoing a major platform transition. After successfully airing on &TV for over ten years, the popular show is now set to move exclusively to an OTT platform. Industry sources indicate that the series will adopt a finite, seasonal format on Zee5, coinciding with reports that the original broadcast channel may soon cease operations.

Shilpa Shinde Confirms OTT Migration and Format Change

Lead actress Shilpa Shinde, who portrays the iconic character Angoori Bhabhi, has officially confirmed this strategic shift. "It is true that Bhabhiji will soon move to an OTT platform," Shinde stated. "The show will be available in a finite format and will continue in seasons. Although it remains the channel's flagship program, awareness among the masses has diminished recently."

Shinde elaborated on the audience disconnect, noting, "Even after my return to the show in December, I continue receiving social media messages from viewers expressing their desire to see me back on Bhabhiji. This clearly indicates that many people remain unaware of my comeback. This transition has been under discussion for an extended period, and I am genuinely pleased that our show will continue on another platform. The new generation predominantly consumes content on their mobile devices."

Return to Original Show Concept and Essence

The actress revealed exciting details about the creative direction for the OTT version. "Viewers particularly enjoyed the original concept, which centered around two neighboring couples engaging in playful 'taaka-jhaaki' interactions across their homes," Shinde explained. "That foundational concept was absent when I rejoined the show because the script had evolved significantly. The 'ghoonghat ganj' storyline has been discontinued, and the creators are planning to resurrect the original premise that defined the show's unique flavor. I am eagerly anticipating this new chapter."

This strategic move reflects broader industry trends as traditional television content increasingly migrates to digital platforms. The transition to a seasonal format on Zee5 represents a modern approach to content delivery, potentially attracting younger audiences while retaining loyal viewers. The decision to revisit the show's original comedic premise suggests a deliberate effort to recapture the magic that made Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai a household name during its initial run.

The shift also highlights changing viewer habits, with mobile consumption becoming predominant among newer demographics. As OTT platforms continue to reshape India's entertainment landscape, established television properties like Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai are adapting their distribution and narrative strategies to remain relevant in an increasingly digital ecosystem.
