The Boys: Mexico Spin-Off Still in Development Despite Long Wait

As the final season of 'The Boys' premiered just a few days ago, fans are eagerly wondering what the creators have planned next. The franchise, based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson, has already spawned several spin-offs. Among these, 'The Boys: Mexico' was announced as a solid project in development. However, there has been a lack of updates for some time. Here is everything we know so far about 'The Boys: Mexico.'

What Is 'The Boys: Mexico'?

The spin-off project was first announced in 2023 as part of 'The Boys' universe. It is not the only spin-off in the works, as 'Vought Rising,' a prequel to the main series, is also set for release soon. According to Entertainment Weekly, despite being announced nearly three years ago, 'The Boys: Mexico' is still in the development phase, with no confirmed release date in sight.

Key Details About the Project

The series is being spearheaded by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, a renowned writer best known for his work on DC's 'Blue Beetle.' Filming is expected to take place across various locations in Mexico, featuring a predominantly Mexican cast. Mexican stars Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal were initially considered for acting roles but have since shifted to behind-the-scenes involvement. Meanwhile, 'Vought Rising' is slated for release next year.

Update from Eric Kripke

Eric Kripke, the showrunner, confirmed that the studios backing the franchise have seen the first draft of the script. He stated, "They just delivered a draft of the pilot to Amazon. Amazon seemed to really like it and seemed to be making all the right noises. They gave some notes, so we're gonna incorporate those notes. Gareth [Dunnet-Alcocer], who is the writer, is so smart and good."

Fans will have to wait for further announcements regarding the official release date of 'The Boys: Mexico.'
