Telugu superstar Allu Arjun appeared virtually before a Hyderabad court on Tuesday in connection with the stampede incident that occurred during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule. The court has adjourned the matter to July 6, 2026, for further hearing.
Court Proceedings and Virtual Appearance
The actor, who is currently on bail, joined the proceedings via video conferencing from his residence. The court had earlier granted him interim bail after his arrest in December 2025. The stampede took place on December 4, 2025, at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to several others, including her son.
According to the prosecution, the stampede occurred when a large crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of Allu Arjun, who was present at the theatre for the premiere. The victim's family filed a complaint, leading to a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Legal Team's Argument
Allu Arjun's legal team argued that the actor had no direct involvement in the incident and that the theatre management was responsible for crowd control. They also pointed out that the actor had left the venue before the stampede occurred. The court, however, noted that the investigation is ongoing and scheduled the next hearing for July 6, 2026.
The judge also directed the police to submit a detailed report on the incident, including the role of the theatre management and the measures taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Impact on Allu Arjun's Career
The case has cast a shadow over the actor's career, with some industry insiders expressing concern about the potential impact on his upcoming projects. However, his fans have continued to show support, with many gathering outside the court to express solidarity. Allu Arjun is currently filming for a new project and is expected to resume work after the legal proceedings.
The stampede incident has also sparked a debate about crowd management at film premieres and events in Telangana. The state government has since issued new guidelines for organizing such events, requiring prior approval from local authorities and deployment of adequate security personnel.
