Keanu Reeves in Negotiations for Live-Action Lego Film
Hollywood star Keanu Reeves is in negotiations to feature in a live-action hybrid Lego film, according to entertainment news outlet Deadline. The project is being developed by Universal Pictures under its exclusive five-year deal with The Lego Group, signed in 2020.
Director Josh Cooley to Helm the Project
The film will be directed by Josh Cooley, marking a reunion between Reeves and the filmmaker after their collaboration on 2019's Toy Story 4. In that film, Cooley directed and Reeves voiced the stuntman toy Duke Caboom. The upcoming Lego film will combine live-action and animation, though plot details remain under wraps.
Production Team and Background
Producers Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians will oversee the project under The Lego Group banner. Universal's 2020 deal with Lego grants the studio rights to develop, produce, and distribute theatrical releases. Previously, four major Lego films were released: The Lego Movie (2014), The Lego Batman Movie (2017), The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017), and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019). Additionally, several direct-to-video and streaming Lego films have been produced, including LEGO: The Adventures of Clutch Powers (2010) and various DC, Marvel, and Star Wars adaptations.
Reeves' Upcoming Projects
Reeves' latest work is Outcome, which premiered on Apple TV on April 10. He will next voice the antihero Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. He is also set to appear in a Constantine sequel and Netflix's BRZRKR film, based on the comic series he co-created.
