Actress Manasa Varanasi is garnering widespread admiration and positive reviews for her latest cinematic release, the Telugu film 'Couple Friendly,' where she stars alongside Santosh Soban. Her natural acting style, simple yet expressive delivery, and soft screen presence have resonated deeply with audiences, helping her forge a strong connection with viewers.
Inspired by Sai Pallavi's Performances
In a recent interview with Gulte, Manasa Varanasi shared intriguing details about how her role in the film was directly inspired by the acclaimed actress Sai Pallavi. She revealed that the director of 'Couple Friendly,' Ashwin Chandrasekar, specifically instructed her to watch multiple Sai Pallavi movies as part of her preparation.
"Director Ashwin told me to watch many Sai Pallavi movies as he is a fan of her work. He wanted me to take inspiration from Sai Pallavi. Therefore, he asked me to watch any film starring her," Manasa explained. This guidance highlights the director's vision for her character and performance, drawing from Sai Pallavi's renowned authenticity and emotional depth.
About 'Couple Friendly'
The film follows the intertwined lives of Mithra, played by Manasa Varanasi, and Shiva, portrayed by Santosh Soban. Shiva is an interior designer from Nellore who moves to Chennai with ambitious dreams. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he is forced to work as a bike-taxi driver to make ends meet.
It is during this challenging phase that he encounters Mithra, an IT graduate who is desperately searching for employment. As their paths cross, life begins to improve for both characters, but a sudden and unforeseen event dramatically alters their trajectory, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.
'Couple Friendly' Box Office Performance
According to a report by trade analyst Sacnilk, 'Couple Friendly' has performed commendably at the box office, earning an estimated Rs 4.86 crore in India net during its first week. This marks Manasa Varanasi's second project following her debut in the 2024 film 'Devaki Nandana Vasudeva,' showcasing her growing presence in the industry.
The movie also features notable performances from supporting actors Yogi Babu, Rajeev Kanakala, and Livingston in important roles, contributing to the film's overall appeal.
'Couple Friendly' Critical Review
An ETimes review noted that the narrative takes a sharp turn in the second half when Mithra is diagnosed with a terminal illness. While this twist aims to intensify the emotional depth, the treatment occasionally veers into melodrama, adopting an overly sentimental tone at times.
The pacing dips noticeably during this segment, and the family drama surrounding her condition unfolds in a predictable, formulaic manner. What began as a refreshing slice-of-life romance gradually drifts into more familiar and conventional territory, losing some of its earlier charm and originality.
Sai Pallavi's Upcoming Projects
On a related note, Sai Pallavi, whose work inspired Manasa's performance, is set to appear in the upcoming Hindi film 'Ek Din,' starring opposite Junaid Khan. She will also be seen portraying Goddess Sita in the highly anticipated mythological epic 'Ramayana,' further expanding her diverse portfolio in Indian cinema.
