Pedro Pascal became emotional during the 'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu' panel at CCXP Mexico, where he appeared as an unannounced guest alongside director Jon Favreau. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pascal joined Favreau at the event in Mexico City on Sunday, wearing a Mexico men's World Cup 2026 soccer jersey. The film also stars Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White, and follows Din Djarin and Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda, after their journey in 'The Mandalorian'.

Pascal said he always hoped the story would reach theaters, even though the character began on streaming. “As soon as I saw this, I knew that it would be a new authorship of a streaming experience,” he said, referring to the Disney Plus series that premiered in 2019 and concluded its third season in 2023. “But I always had a dream in my heart that it would be on a big screen because that’s how I was developed as a child. I went to the movie theater so much with my family, and I saw the Star Wars movies on the big screen.”

After speaking in Spanish, Pascal paused as he fought back tears. The crowd cheered loudly and chanted his name. He later addressed fans again in Spanish and blew a kiss to the audience.

Jon Favreau Teases 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' Story

Favreau said the film aims to welcome new viewers while advancing the story for longtime fans. 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' centers on Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and Grogu as they help defend the New Republic. “We wanted to introduce these characters to a new audience,” Favreau explained. “But for the fans who have been there forever, like [this crowd], we wanted to evolve the relationship. It’s no longer about the Mandalorian rescuing Grogu. Now Grogu has leveled up. He’s a Mandalorian apprentice. He’s studying under Luke Skywalker. He’s coming into his own, and now he’s discovering and unleashing his abilities.”

Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Ian Bryce, and Dave Filoni serve as producers on the film. Favreau wrote the script with Filoni and Noah Kloor. The panel also featured an appearance from Grogu and ended with a screening of the movie’s opening footage.

Disney will release the film on May 22, 2026, marking the first theatrical 'Star Wars' feature since 2019.
