The wait is over for cinephiles eager to see actor Rajesh Madhavan's first venture behind the camera. His directorial debut, titled 'Pennum Porattum', is officially set to arrive in cinemas across the country on February 6. The makers created a buzz by unveiling a new poster alongside the official release date announcement.
A Fresh Fantasy with Social Commentary
Translated as 'Girl and the Fools Parade', the title hints at the film's playful and unconventional nature. Rajesh Madhavan promises a novel cinematic experience that blends fantasy elements with sharp yet accessible social observations. The narrative aims to deliver its message through a lens of simplicity and fun, setting it apart from conventional storytelling.
One of the most talked-about aspects of the project is its massive ensemble of fresh talent. The film boasts a cast of more than 100 new actors, offering a platform to numerous debutants. Adding to the unique landscape, over 400 birds and animals are also integral parts of the film's world. While the cast is predominantly new, a few established stars, including a popular young Malayalam superstar, have lent their voices to certain characters, their identities kept under wraps for now.
Rooted in Authenticity and Festival Success
The story, screenplay, and dialogues of 'Pennum Porattum' come from writer Ravishankar, known for his earlier work as a writing associate on notable films like Mammootty's 'Bheeshma Parvam' and Manju Warrier's 'Rani Padmini'. The film's authenticity is deeply rooted in its setting and language.
Most characters speak in the authentic Palakkad dialect, lending a natural and grounded feel. The casting further reinforces this, featuring ordinary village residents, including agricultural workers and local youth. The production involved nearly a year of work, with significant time dedicated to meticulous preparation and acting workshops for the large cast of newcomers.
This dedication has already paid off on the festival circuit. 'Pennum Porattum' was screened at prestigious events like the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), where shows ran to packed houses. Audiences responded with loud applause, particularly praising the comedy and action sequences performed by the debut actors.

The film is backed by a strong and experienced production team. It is produced by Santhosh T. Kuruvilla of STK Frames, the producer behind beloved hits such as 'Maheshinte Prathikaaram', 'Mayaanadhi', 'Android Kunjappan', and the recent 'Nna Thaan Case Kodu'. The production is a collaboration between STK Frames and Binu George Alexander Productions, with Binu George Alexander and Sherin Rachel Santhosh also serving as producers. Theatrical distribution will be handled by Moonshot Entertainment.
The technical crew brings together accomplished names:
