The 97th birth anniversary of veteran Kannada actor Dr Rajkumar was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Varta Bhavan in Belagavi on Friday. The event was jointly organized by the Information and Public Relations Department and the district administration.
Inaugural Address by Corporation Commissioner
Speaking at the inauguration, corporation commissioner M Kartik said that Dr Rajkumar's simple and polite manners serve as a model for everyone. He added that Rajkumar lives in public memory through his acting, singing, social service, and efforts to preserve Kannada. The power of his voice is the reason why his songs remain unforgettable even today. Kartik emphasized that the birth anniversary should be celebrated with even more pomp in the coming days.
Tribute by Senior Playwright D S Chougale
Senior playwright and literateur D S Chougale remarked that Rajkumar has made a home in the minds of every common man. He said that Rajkumar came from the theatre and grew up as a people's leader. He humbly acknowledged that the theatre gave and taught him everything. Growing up under the guidance of Gubbi Veeranna, he rose to great heights, which is an inspiring story. Coming from a socially and economically weak background, the growth of Mutturaj (his maiden name) was not a sudden achievement. He became Rajkumar due to his passion for art, belief in his own abilities, dedication, commitment to work, and extraordinary talent. He treated everyone with utmost respect and saw god in his fans. Chougale noted that Rajkumar's life was not a path of flowers but a difficult one, and it is a blessing that such a person was born in Kannada land.
Deputy Director's Remarks
Gurunath Kadabur, deputy director of the Information and Public Relations Department, recalled that Dr Rajkumar, who is the identity of Kannada language and literature, made a huge contribution to social reforms through his films.
Musical Performance
Mutturaj of Gandharva Lahari Melodies Orchestra from Gokak presented Rajkumar's songs, adding a musical tribute to the celebration.
