Gulki Joshi Makes a Comeback to Television After a Three-Year Break

After a notable portrayal of Haseena Malik in the popular series Maddam Sir, actress Gulki Joshi stepped away from the television scene. Now, nearly three years later, she is set to make a highly anticipated return to the small screen. Gulki will take on the lead role in Hui Gumm Yaadein: Ek Doctor, Do Zindagiyaan, which is the Indian adaptation of the acclaimed Italian series DOC.

Reflecting on the Hiatus and Creative Choices

In a recent interview, Gulki Joshi opened up about her time away from television. She expressed, "I genuinely missed being on television and maintaining that daily connection with my audience. My break was not by choice but due to a lack of roles that truly sparked my creative passion. This period allowed me to explore my identity and existence beyond mere ambition. However, my deep love for theatre kept me artistically engaged throughout most of this time."

She further emphasized that the unique format of Hui Gumm Yaadein played a crucial role in her decision to return. "The first aspect that drew me in was that this is not your typical family drama. It offers a fresh and compelling narrative, which was exactly what I was looking for," she added.

Taking Over the Role from Ekta Kaul

Gulki Joshi joined the cast after actress Ekta Kaul had to exit the show due to a family health emergency, requiring her to be with her mother. Commenting on this transition, Gulki stated, "Ekta is a wonderful artiste, and it is truly unfortunate that she had to step down. But as the old saying goes, 'Daane daane pe likha hai khaanewale ka naam' (Every grain bears the name of its consumer). If this show and this character came to me, then perhaps it was destined to be."

On-Screen Chemistry with Co-Star Iqbal Khan

An intriguing element of the casting is the age gap between Gulki Joshi and her co-star, Iqbal Khan, who portrays the male lead. Gulki shared her thoughts on this pairing, saying, "Mature pairings have always resonated well with me, whether it was with Varun Badola in Phir Subah Hogi or Rahil Azam in Maddam Sir. Working with Iqbal Khan feels like a small-world moment because my mother was one of the writers on his first show, Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai. I recall many of my friends back then had a huge crush on him, and now I find myself romancing him on screen, which still feels surreal. I suppose I just look better with men rather than boys (laughs)."

This comeback marks a significant milestone in Gulki Joshi's career, as she embraces a challenging role in a medical drama that promises to captivate audiences with its unique storyline and dynamic performances.
