Rajasthan Disability Commissioner Directs Nathdwara Temple to Ensure Accessibility
Rajasthan Orders Nathdwara Temple to Be Disability-Friendly

Jaipur: The Commissionerate for Special Persons with Disabilities in Rajasthan has issued a directive to the Nathdwara Temple Board in Rajsamand, mandating that the temple premises be made fully accessible for individuals with disabilities, in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.

Background of the Directive

The decision came after Hemant Bhai Goyal, national chairman of the Disabled Rights Federation, submitted a formal representation seeking barrier-free access at the revered shrine under the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan. The plea was subsequently forwarded by the deputy commissioner for specially abled persons to the appropriate authorities.

Key Demands in the Representation

The representation outlined several critical requirements to ensure smooth movement and access for persons with disabilities and wheelchair users. These include dedicated accessible routes, installation of ramps and railings, provision of trained assistance staff, establishment of a dedicated disability assistance counter, and clear signage across the temple premises.

Action Taken by the Commissionerate

Acting on the request, the Commissionerate instructed the chief executive officer of the Nathdwara Temple Board to take appropriate action under existing rules and ensure full compliance with the RPwD Act, 2016. The temple administration has also been directed to submit an action-taken report to the Commissionerate, detailing the steps implemented to achieve accessibility.

This move is expected to significantly enhance the pilgrimage experience for devotees with disabilities, promoting inclusivity and equal access to religious sites across the state.
