Lucknow: The state is experiencing a surge in demand for Panchgavya and Ayurvedic products derived from indigenous cow breeds, with several items now being exported to countries including the United States, Germany, Japan, Australia, and Gulf nations, according to animal husbandry department officials on Sunday.

Nearly 200 Cow-Based Products in the Market

Officials stated that approximately 200 cow-based products manufactured in the state are finding markets both domestically and internationally. These include Panchgavya ghrit, Brahmi ghrit, gomutra ark, chyawanprash, cow ghee, shatdhauta ghrit, and Ayurvedic kajal. The products are being supplied to nations such as the US, Canada, UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand.

Linking Cow Conservation with Economic Activities

The state government is encouraging the conservation of indigenous cows and linking it with economic activities. Self-help groups, gaushalas, and rural entrepreneurs are increasingly participating in the production of cow-based items, creating additional livelihood opportunities in villages. Additional Chief Secretary of Animal Husbandry, Mukesh Meshram, said the state government is providing subsidies of up to 50% for rearing improved indigenous cow breeds, with special focus on Sahiwal, Gir, Gangatiri, and Tharparkar breeds.

Training Programs Attract Participants from 15 States

Officials noted that people from more than 15 states, including Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab, have participated in training programs related to cow care, breed improvement, and cow-based entrepreneurship in Uttar Pradesh. Ghaziabad-based entrepreneur Asim Rawat, a former software engineer, is among those involved in the sector. He emphasized that scientifically developed cow-based products and better market linkages can help strengthen the rural economy.
