Ashraya Foundation Advocates for HIV-Positive Community with Railway Minister
In a significant move to support vulnerable populations, the Ashraya Foundation presented a formal memorandum to Union Railway Minister V Somanna on Saturday in Belagavi. The foundation's appeal focuses on securing essential rights and opportunities for individuals living with HIV, specifically requesting free railway travel and job reservations within the Indian Railways.

Safala Nagaratna, representing the Ashraya Foundation, handed over the memorandum during the inauguration of the newly constructed Ashraya Care Home and Livelihood Centre. This facility is dedicated to providing shelter and support for HIV-positive orphan girls and widows, marking a crucial step in community welfare.
The memorandum outlines two primary demands: free train travel for HIV-positive individuals to facilitate access to healthcare and social services, and job reservations in the railway department for eligible candidates from this community, aiming to promote economic empowerment and reduce stigma.
In response, Minister Somanna assured the foundation that he would thoroughly review the requests and provide a positive response within 15 days. Additional support came from BDL Company for sanitary materials, Reyvector Company for the compound wall, and Suresh Yadav for donating the main gate and grill doors.
