Funds Not Released for Cancer Institute, 144 Patients Await Treatment
Cancer Institute Funds Withheld, 144 Patients Pending

The Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute (KSSSCI) in Lucknow has not received the funds allocated under the Asadhya Rog Yojana for the financial year 2026-27, leaving around 144 registered patients without free treatment. The state administration withheld the release because the institute failed to submit complete details of fund utilization from the previous fiscal year.

Scheme Details and Impact on Patients

The Asadhya Rog Yojana provides free treatment to patients with an annual family income below Rs 1 lakh who are suffering from serious illnesses, including cancer. The institute had requested Rs 6 crore for the current financial year, but no funds have been released so far. Consequently, no fresh registrations are being accepted, and pending treatments remain on hold.

Patients have expressed distress over the delay. A patient from Sultanpur, awaiting palate cancer surgery, said the postponement is agonizing. Another breast cancer patient from Ayodhya mentioned she has been staying in Lucknow for an extended period awaiting treatment.

Official Response

Officials from the medical education department stated that the institute did not submit details of fund utilization for 2025-26 or the list of beneficiaries, leading to the budget hold. Dr. Vijay Varun, the institute’s spokesperson, clarified that utilization certificates have been submitted and the beneficiary list will be provided soon.

The delay underscores the need for transparent and timely reporting to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for vulnerable patients.
