Farmer dies after family chooses tantric over hospital for snakebite

A tragic incident unfolded in Gharampur village, located in the Bheetargaon development block of Kanpur, where a farmer lost his life after his family chose to consult a tantric instead of seeking immediate medical care following a snakebite.

Incident Details

Gyani Yadav, a farmer, was grazing his cattle in his field on Saturday evening when a venomous snake bit him on the foot near a neem tree. Upon learning of the incident, his family members decided against taking him to a hospital and instead turned to faith healers and tantrics for treatment.

Delay in Medical Care

As the ritual of exorcism continued late into the night, the venom gradually spread through his body. When his condition deteriorated significantly, the family finally rushed him to a hospital. However, the delay in receiving proper medical treatment proved fatal, and he succumbed to the snakebite.

Medical Advisory

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Haridutt Nemi emphasized that snakebite victims should be taken immediately to the nearest government hospital for anti-venom treatment. He cautioned against relying on faith healing methods, which can lead to fatal delays.
