Hazaribag Food Safety Raid Uncovers Massive Stock of Expired Mustard Oil
Hazaribag Raid Seizes 957 Expired Mustard Oil Containers

Major Food Safety Operation in Hazaribag Leads to Seizure of Expired Mustard Oil

In a significant crackdown on food adulteration, authorities in Hazaribag district conducted a targeted raid that exposed a substantial cache of expired edible oil. The operation was executed following explicit directives from District Collector Shashi Prakash Singh and Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shashi Jaiswal, demonstrating a coordinated effort to uphold public health standards.

Surprise Inspection Uncovers Violations

A dedicated food safety team carried out a surprise inspection at a business establishment located in the Barhi area on Tuesday. The inspection was led by Food Safety Officer Md Manjar Hussain, who spearheaded the meticulous examination of the premises. During the thorough investigation, officials made a startling discovery: a large inventory of mustard oil that had surpassed its expiration date.

The team documented and collected samples from multiple brands of the expired oil. These samples have been dispatched to the state food testing laboratory in Namkum for comprehensive chemical analysis. The laboratory tests will determine the exact composition and potential health hazards associated with the expired products.

Substantial Quantities of Expired Oil Confiscated

The scale of the violation was considerable. Officials successfully seized a total of 957 containers of expired mustard oil from the premises. This included 813 tins and 144 bottles, all of which were immediately confiscated and sealed on-site to prevent any further distribution or sale.

An additional critical finding was that the trader operating the business was doing so without a valid food licence, which is a mandatory requirement under Indian food safety regulations. This lack of licensing compounded the seriousness of the violations uncovered during the raid.

Legal Action to Be Pursued Against Trader

Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shashi Jaiswal confirmed the seizure and provided details on the next steps. He stated that appropriate legal action would be initiated against the trader under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. This act provides a robust framework for penalizing such offenses to deter future violations and protect consumer health.

The proactive measures taken by the Hazaribag administration highlight an ongoing commitment to food safety surveillance. Such raids are essential for identifying and eliminating substandard food products from the market, thereby safeguarding public health and ensuring compliance with national food safety standards.
