IMD Issues Weather Alert: Western Disturbance to Bring Snowfall to Himalayan States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather advisory, warning of the ongoing impact of a Western Disturbance affecting northern regions of the country. The meteorological agency forecasts a period of scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall across the Western Himalayan region, with this wet spell expected to persist until February 11, 2026.

Detailed Forecast for Snowfall and Rainfall

According to the latest weather bulletin released by IMD, the Western Disturbance is currently positioned over 53°E to the north of Latitude 21°N. This system is predicted to bring isolated to scattered precipitation to several areas.

Specific predictions include:

  • Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad: Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph likely on February 10, with isolated activity continuing on February 11.
  • Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand: Rainfall and snowfall expected from February 9 through February 11.

The IMD has specifically highlighted that more snowfall is anticipated in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh due to these prevailing conditions.

Temperature Fluctuations Across Northwest India

Alongside the precipitation forecast, the Meteorological Department has predicted notable temperature variations in Northwest India. A rise in minimum temperatures of approximately 2 degrees Celsius is expected until February 10, followed by a subsequent decline. These fluctuations are directly attributed to the influence of the Western Disturbance moving across the region.

Delhi Weather: Stable Conditions with Morning Mist

In contrast to the active weather in the Himalayas, the national capital is forecast to experience relatively stable conditions. IMD predicts a partly cloudy sky for Delhi with mist during the morning hours.

Temperature ranges for Delhi are expected as follows:

  1. Maximum Temperature: 23°C to 25°C
  2. Minimum Temperature: 08°C to 10°C

These readings indicate near-normal temperatures for this period. Additionally, visibility around Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was reported at approximately 2100 meters on Monday morning, with no flight disruptions noted due to the weather conditions.

The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and advises residents in affected regions to stay updated with official weather bulletins for any changes in the forecast.
