Ranchi: Spells of light to moderate rain and thunderstorm may provide relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions across Jharkhand starting May 28, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) office in Ranchi. The announcement was made on Monday.
Weather Forecast for Late May
Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director of IMD Ranchi, stated, "Partly cloudy sky, with a possibility of light to moderate rain or thunderstorm, is likely over southern, north-eastern and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand on Thursday and Friday. Subsequently, temperatures are expected to decrease by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius."
Current Heatwave Conditions
As residents continue to endure hot and humid weather, the Met office reported on Tuesday that heatwave conditions will persist in Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, and other northwestern districts of Jharkhand on Tuesday. However, isolated places over north-eastern and adjoining central districts such as Dhanbad, Giridih, Bokaro, Hazaribag, and Koderma may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.
Regional Impact
The state capital Ranchi, along with Khunti, Gumla, and Ramgarh districts, is likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated locations. Until Monday evening, isolated parts of the state received very light to light rainfall, with the highest precipitation recorded in Pakuria, Pakur district, at 9.8 mm.
Temperature Records
Daltonganj recorded a scorching 44 degrees Celsius on Monday, while Ranchi registered 39 degrees Celsius on the same day.
