A wave of panic swept through Burail village in Chandigarh on Monday after a series of LPG cylinder explosions ripped through a house, leaving several people injured and causing extensive damage to the property and surrounding structures.
Explosions in Quick Succession
According to initial reports, at least three cylinders exploded in rapid succession inside the residence, triggering massive destruction. Eyewitnesses recounted that the first blast sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, and within minutes, two more explosions followed, forcing residents to flee their homes in fear.
Suspected Illegal Storage
Locals claimed that multiple LPG cylinders were stored inside the premises, raising suspicions of illegal storage or black-market sale of cooking gas. Authorities are now investigating whether a gas leak may have triggered the explosions.
Extent of Damage
The impact was severe, reducing the house to rubble and damaging nearby buildings. Reports indicate cracked walls and shattered windowpanes in adjoining structures, underscoring the force of the blasts.
Rescue and Investigation
Emergency teams from Chandigarh Police, the fire department, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrived at the scene and launched rescue operations. Several individuals trapped under the debris were pulled out and rushed to nearby hospitals. Officials confirmed that multiple persons were injured, some of them critically.
Police have cordoned off the area and initiated a detailed investigation to determine how such a large number of cylinders were stored and whether any illegal LPG trade was being conducted from the premises.
