Senior Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on either May 31 or June 1, according to party sources. The announcement comes after the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) unanimously elected him as the leader, paving the way for his ascension to the top post.
Decision after high-level meetings
The date for the oath-taking ceremony was finalized following a series of high-level meetings between party leaders and state officials. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi were involved in the discussions, ensuring a smooth transition of power. Shivakumar's name was proposed by outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who stepped down to make way for the new leadership.
Shivakumar's political journey
Shivakumar, a prominent Vokkaliga leader from the Kanakapura constituency, has served in various ministerial roles in previous Congress governments. His elevation to the chief minister's position is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the party's support base in the state, especially among the Vokkaliga community. The 61-year-old leader has been a key figure in Karnataka politics for decades, known for his organizational skills and grassroots connect.
Preparations underway
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be a grand affair, with party workers and supporters from across the state gathering to witness the event. Security arrangements have been tightened, and the venue is being prepared to accommodate a large number of dignitaries, including top Congress leaders from other states. The exact venue and time will be announced shortly.
Shivakumar's appointment marks a new chapter for the Congress party in Karnataka, which has been working to strengthen its position ahead of the next assembly elections. His leadership is expected to focus on development, social welfare, and maintaining coalition harmony within the party.
