Kanpur: Nautapa, the nine-day period of extreme heat, commenced on Monday and will continue until June 2. According to the Hindu calendar, during this period, the sun's rays fall directly upon the Earth, leading to severe heat waves and extreme temperatures across many parts of the country, especially in North and Central India.

Record-Breaking Heat Expected

Meteorologists and astrological predictions indicate that the heat during the Nautapa period of 2026 could surpass several previous records. In states such as Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar, temperatures may range between 45°C and 48°C. In some extremely hot pockets, the mercury could even touch 50°C.

Scorching Winds and Humid Nights

Between 12 pm and 4 pm, winds are expected to be extremely dry and scorching. Even during the nights, no significant relief from humidity and heat is anticipated.

Expert Advice

According to S Sunil Pandey, a weather expert from CSA University, people should avoid venturing outdoors during the afternoon hours and refrain from direct exposure to sunlight between noon and 4 pm. He urged residents to consume water, ORS, and buttermilk regularly, even if they do not feel thirsty. People have also been advised to wear light-colored cotton clothes and keep their heads covered when stepping outdoors.
