In the Moonak area of Sangrur district, over 70 individuals, including women and children, experienced illness after consuming food at a wedding ceremony, as confirmed by officials on Wednesday. The affected individuals were admitted to both government and private healthcare facilities, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
Ministerial Visit and Oversight
Punjab cabinet minister Barinder Kumar Goyal visited the Civil Hospital in Moonak to assess the medical arrangements for the patients. He personally interacted with those admitted, inquiring about their health status, and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted medical care and prompt treatment for all affected persons. Goyal instructed health and administrative authorities to maintain continuous monitoring of the situation until every patient achieves full recovery.
Enhanced Medical Response
Following the minister's directives, teams from the health department and district administration arrived at the hospitals to supervise treatment and guarantee proper medical facilities. The medical response was intensified, with doctors from various towns being called in to provide specialized care. Some patients were transferred to Sangrur for advanced treatment.
Officials reported that approximately 72 people had been admitted following the suspected food poisoning incident at the wedding function. Medical teams from Kohrian, Sangrur, Bhawanigarh, and Lehragaga are actively involved in treatment, while a specialized team from Patiala is also being dispatched to Moonak Hospital.
Monitoring and Accountability
The Civil Surgeon of Sangrur is personally overseeing the situation, and the Director of Health has been briefed to ensure no gaps exist in the treatment process. Authorities have stated that no negligence will be tolerated in the provision of medical care. Three ambulances have been placed on standby for emergency situations.
Patients undergoing treatment expressed satisfaction with the medical arrangements, according to officials. Minister Goyal also urged the central government to enact stringent laws against food adulteration, particularly in milk and other food products, to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Punjab government has affirmed that the matter is being taken seriously and appropriate action will follow.
