Prayagraj Temperature Drops 3 Degrees, Heatwave Relief with Humidity Rise

Prayagraj: After enduring over a week of extreme heat, residents of the Sangam city experienced noticeable relief on Tuesday as temperatures dropped by more than 3 degrees compared with the previous day.

The maximum temperature, which stood at 44.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, fell to 41 degrees Celsius while the minimum was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius, offering some respite from the relentless heatwave conditions.

However, the relief was only partial, as a sharp rise in humidity levels led to widespread discomfort. The relative humidity (RH) ranged between a high of 67% and a low of 31%, resulting in profuse sweating and making outdoor conditions uneasy.

For over a week, Prayagraj has been witnessing severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures repeatedly among the highest in the state. The extreme heat significantly disrupted daily life, particularly for those who had to step out for work. Commuters, vendors and labourers bore the brunt of the scorching conditions, while roads and markets often appeared deserted during peak afternoon hours.

On Tuesday, although the temperature dip provided some comfort, people continued to take precautions. Many were seen covering their heads and faces, while the demand for summer essentials remained high.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), further relief is on the horizon. The department has forecast rain in Prayagraj and adjoining areas on April 29, which is expected to bring the mercury down further.

However, officials have advised residents to remain cautious, stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
