In a routine check to see if the water had heated up, he touched the appliance and suffered a severe electric shock. The impact caused him to fall unconscious immediately.

Family members and neighbors rushed to his aid upon discovering the situation. He was quickly taken to a private hospital for urgent medical attention. However, despite the swift response, Viswanathan succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.
