Kerala Food Safety Department Enforces Strict Measures for Attukal Pongala Festival
The food safety department in Kerala has issued rigorous guidelines to ensure food safety during the upcoming Attukal Pongala festival, scheduled for March 3. In an official statement released on Monday, authorities emphasized the need for all food establishments involved in the festival to strictly comply with food safety standards to protect public health.
Mandatory Requirements for Food Businesses
All food businesses operating in connection with the festival are required to prominently display copies of their food safety licence or registration certificate at their establishments. During inspections, operators must provide valid medical fitness certificates for all employees and water quality test certificates if water is used for cooking or food preparation.
Awareness Classes and Registration Procedures
As part of the festival arrangements, the department will conduct a mandatory awareness class for food business operators and cooking workers on Thursday. Participation is compulsory for those operating within the festival zone, and food entrepreneurs must register in advance via email.
Institutions, organizations, and individuals planning to distribute free meals, snacks, soft drinks, or drinking water must obtain prior registration from the department. The registration facility is available at Akshaya centres, and applicants must attach address proof of the person responsible for food distribution and remit the prescribed fee online.
Complaint Reporting Mechanism
Complaints related to food safety can be reported through the toll-free number 1800 425 1126, ensuring a direct line for public concerns during the festival period.
